What is a domain name?
A domain name is a unique name by which your website or online store can be found on the internet. For example, a website’s domain name might be www.company.fi, and you can also use email with your own address in the format @company.fi.
How does domain registration work?
Zoner registers .fi domains on your behalf from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, Traficom (formerly Ficora). Other domain extensions are registered using international registries. Once the domain registration is complete, Zoner’s name servers are assigned to it and it can be managed through our services.
How do I know whether the domain name I want is available?
A domain search helps you check whether the domain name you want is available. Reserve a domain easily directly through the domain search. If you want to register a less common domain extension, you can do so easily by contacting our customer service.
Will my information be shared with third parties when I register a domain?
The domain owner’s contact details are always added to the WHOIS registry, where you can look up who a domain belongs to. In principle, WHOIS information is publicly available, although for some domain extensions it is possible to have the information hidden as an add-on service. This option is not available for country-code domain extensions.
How long will I own the domain?
You own the domain for as long as you want. We always renew the domain name automatically for one year at a time. If you no longer wish to own the domain name, you must notify us in writing to cancel it.
What is domain parking?
Domain parking is a storage space for registered domain names that have not yet been put into active use. It is recommended to register a domain name as early as possible for future use, so that competitors don’t get there first. Domain parking includes working name server details and DNS management for the domain, which are needed to point the domain to the desired services. If you do not order separate web hosting from us, we will by default place new domains in domain parking at no extra charge!
Does a domain name include email or a website?
A domain name registration alone does not include email or a website, but these can easily be added to your order. Our domain service automatically includes domain parking, which is a storage space for an already-registered domain.
The domain name I want is already taken – what can I do?
If the domain search shows that the domain name you want is already taken, it can no longer be registered for your use. You can try a different term or choose a different domain extension. If you already own that domain through another provider, you can transfer it to our services easily.
